Part 2: Full-Engagement Supervision - Helping therapists Reach Their Full Potential - Details:
Supervision is essential, but it can become so narrowly focused on a particular case or didactic method that larger issues and challenges remain unexplored. If you're looking for a fresher, more engaging approach to supervision, this is the workshop for you. We'll begin by exploring ways to approach challenging situations---when you like or dislike a client too much, when you feel a sexual attraction, when you don't know how much to self-disclose. We'll learn to recognize, acknowledge, and negotiate the gap between client and therapist over race, gender, cultural background, and other differences that impede treatment. Because a therapist is never a neutral participant, but always part of the process, we'll provide techniques for developing a more acute awareness of your own role and your triggering impact in the therapeutic relationship. You'll leave with an enhanced understanding of what effective supervision can be.
