Connecting with Men: Changing the Paradigm - Details:
How do you connect therapeutically with male clients who seem confused, even clueless, about how to connect emotionally in relationships with their spouses, children, and others in their lives? By asking more of ourselves, we'll be able to ask more of men and help them develop the skills to be more relational---many are confused, as to how to have meaningful connections with their partners, children, and others. By incorporating emerging research on attachment, new breakthroughs in trauma treatment, and the therapist's willingness to be more relational, we can use a mind/body/heart approach to help men find the value of and capacity to be in intimate relationships. In this workshop, you'll learn specific techniques to help you regulate your own physiology, including becoming more attuned to how your face, voice, and body reveal an open-hearted willingness to engage with your client from the start of every session. You'll also find out how to teach your clients to do the same for themselves, to help them counteract shame, rage, narcissism, avoidance, and other uncomfortable emotional states that can constrict men's emotional expressiveness.
